Duties and responsibilities: Inpatient nursing shift supervisor has responsibility for nursing activities on shift. Serves as administrative resource person for hospital administration and nursing administration throughout shift. Serves as clinical resource person and provides clinical support for all areas of inpatient nursing during shift. Collaborates with nurse managers and charge nurses in planning on-shift and incoming shift staffing. Hires new employees, screens applications, interviews candidates. Prepares and conducts annual performance appraisals. Trains and assigns work to new and existing employees within the department. Makes recommendations concerning merit increases and classification reviews. Performs disciplinary action, up to dismissal, in consultation with HR/LR. Represents the department or organization in grievance hearing, administrative review process, or arbitration.
Special conditions of employment: Must possess a valid California RN license and a current BCLS certification. At least 1 year of acute care experience.
Qualifications: Must have demonstrated supervisory experience in an acute care setting. Must be able to prepare and maintain budgets. Must possess demonstrated knowledge of JCAHO accreditation regulations. Must be available to work overtime as needed.
Preferred: BSN degree and management experience.
